Kolkata: Law College Horror After R.G. Kar Incident — Female Student Gang-Raped, 3 Arrested

The horrific incident at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata, where a female student was assaulted, had already sent shockwaves across the city. Doctors had staged widespread protests against that act of brutality. Not even a year has passed since that case, and yet again, a similar incident of brutality has emerged — this time from a law college in Kolkata.

A female student was gang-raped inside a law college, and Kolkata’s Kasba Police have arrested three accused in connection with the crime. According to police sources, the accused include a former student of the same institution and two college staff members. The police are currently interrogating the suspects.

Timeline of the Assault and Arrests

The survivor informed the police that the accused committed the heinous act on the night of June 25, between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM. She reportedly pleaded for mercy, but the perpetrators continued to brutalize her. Based on her complaint, the police launched a swift search operation and arrested the first two accused on June 26. The third accused was apprehended around 12:30 AM between June 26 and 27.

Police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused and are preparing to present them before the court, where they will request police custody for further investigation. An officer stated that the families of the accused have also been summoned for questioning, but they did not provide any significant information.

Gang-Rape Allegation Against Three

According to police sources, the survivor approached Kasba Police Station and filed a complaint of gang rape against two staff members and one former student of the college. Based on her complaint, a medical examination was conducted at National Medical College.

Crime Took Place in College Premises

Sources from the college revealed that one of the accused is a former student who completed his degree in 2022. As per the survivor’s statement to police, she was lured into a room within the college premises, where the assault took place. One of the accused raped her, while the other two assisted him during the act.
