National News: Mumbai is witnessing a resurgence in Covid-19 cases during the month of May, which has alerted the Health Department and the Indian Medical Association (IMA). According to recent reports, an average of nine new Covid-infected patients are being reported daily in the city, which points to a new round of the disease. However, experts say that the symptoms this time are relatively mild and less severe, making it more important to be cautious rather than panicking.

Increasing number of Covid infections in Mumbai

The number of Covid infections has increased in Mumbai and surrounding areas in the month of May. According to the latest information from the Health Department, 43 new Covid cases were found in Maharashtra on Sunday, out of which 35 are from Mumbai. Along with this, seven new infections were found in Pune city and one in the Pune rural area. A total of 248 Covid cases have been registered in Mumbai since January this year, which shows the severity of the infection this month. Experts believe that the virus is still active and will keep emerging in new forms from time to time.

Mild symptoms of Covid and need for vigilance

Dr. Rajiv Vijayadevan, co-chairman of the Covid Task Force of the Indian Medical Association, says that the new form of Covid is no longer very dangerous, but the cycle of infection will continue. He said that when the virus enters the body, the immune system reacts, which can weaken over time, leading to reinfection. Symptoms like normal fever, mild cold and cough, and fatigue are common in Covid patients this time, and most patients recover within a few days without any special medicine.

Do not use antibiotics

Dr. Vijayadevan has clearly said that antibiotics should not be used in the treatment of Covid as they are not effective against the virus. Consumption of unnecessary medicines can be harmful and can also increase immunity to medicines. He has advised people to contact a doctor if mild symptoms appear and avoid self-medication.

Danger for people with serious diseases

So far, four deaths have occurred due to Covid in Maharashtra, most of whom were already suffering from some serious disease. Dr. Vijayadevan said that COVID infection can be more severe in patients suffering from diseases like cancer, diabetes, or kidney. Therefore, such people should be especially cautious and keep getting their health checked regularly.

COVID awareness and precautions

  • Do not panic if you get mild symptoms, but definitely consult a doctor.
  • Do not take any medicine, especially antibiotics, without consulting a doctor.
  • Getting the flu vaccine is beneficial, although it does not provide complete protection from COVID.
  • The elderly and people suffering from other health problems should be more cautious.

COVID testing is not necessary for every fever, but it is necessary to pay attention to the symptoms.

Cautious and  healthy habits needed to control Covid

The new outbreak of COVID in Mumbai is a matter of concern, but the reduction in the severity of the current symptoms brings relief. However, awareness, caution, and proper medical advice are necessary to stay completely safe from the disease. The government and health institutions are constantly monitoring the situation and appeal to the public to follow the COVID protocol, which can prevent the spread of infection. It is time for Mumbaikars to be cautious and adopt healthy habits to keep Covid under control.
