National News: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), while achieving a major success, arrested Khalistani terrorist Kashmir Singh Galwaddi from Motihari in Bihar. Galwaddi, who hails from Ludhiana, Punjab, is an absconding criminal of Nabha Jailbreak of 2016 and is close to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda. The arrest is the result of the joint action of NIA and Motihari Police, which is related to the 2022 Khalistani terror conspiracy case (RC-37/2022/NIA/DLI).
After absconding from Nabha jail in 2016, Kashmir Singh Galwaddi was actively associated with several nominated Khalistani militants including Rinda. It was an important part of BKI and Rinda's terrorist network in Nepal. According to the NIA, Galwaddi provided shelter, logistics aid, and terrorist funding to Khalistani colleagues who carried out terrorist attacks in India. These attacks also include the rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali in May 2022.
The NIA had registered a case of terrorist conspiracy in August 2022, taking self -cognizance to investigate the activities of banned terrorist organizations such as BKI, Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), and International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF). The investigation revealed a deep terrorist-criminal alliance, which was involved in smuggling terrorist hardware like arms, ammunition, explosives, and IEDs from across the border. These groups, along with organized criminal gangs, were running terrorist activities in different parts of the country.
Kashmir Singh Galwaddi was declared a fugitive by the NIA special court in the 2022 terror conspiracy case. Several non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against him, and the NIA had also declared a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh for his arrest.
The NIA filed a charge sheet against Rinda, Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, and seven others in the case in July 2023. Subsequently, the NIA filed two supplementary chargesheets against six other accused. In August 2024, the NIA got Landa's brother Tarsem Singh extradited by the UAE and filed a third supplementary charge sheet against him in December 2024.
Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda, who works for BKI in Pakistan, was declared a "personal terrorist" by the central government in 2023. He illegally fled to Pakistan in the year 2018-19, where he is carrying out terrorist activities with the help of ISI. Rinda has several allegations such as murder, forced recovery, and smuggling arms and drunk in Punjab and Maharashtra.
