National News: The situation in Nepal has been very turbulent for the past few days. The ban on social media and increasing corruption brought the youth to the streets. The protests turned violent; many people lost their lives, and the youth did not spare even the former prime ministers, who became the target of anger. The pressure increased so much that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign and leave the post.
To handle the political crisis after Oli's removal, President Ramchandra Paudel on Saturday administered the oath to Sushila Karki as interim prime minister. The swearing-in ceremony was completely formal, and with this, Karki also became the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal.
India welcomed the new interim government formed in Nepal. A statement came from the Ministry of External Affairs that, "We hope that peace and stability will be strengthened in Nepal under the leadership of Sushila Karki. India and Nepal will continue to move forward together for the progress of the people of both the neighboring countries." Support of youth became Karki's strength
Youth and Gen Z played the biggest role in the recent protests. Rejecting the old leaders, they supported Karki's leadership. They believe that Karki is an honest and just leader who can be trusted.
However, the path in front of Karki is not easy. Restoring the system after the violent protests, curbing corruption, and maintaining the trust of the public will be his real test. At the juncture where Nepal's politics stands at this time, every step will prove to be very important.
