New Delhi: Even as people across the nation immersed themselves in New Year’s Eve celebrations, authorities in several major cities announced comprehensive traffic advisories and security arrangements on Wednesday.

Such advisories were announced in several cities across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

Authorities emphasised public safety through a range of measures, such as road closures, traffic diversions, and restricted vehicle zones along with increased police deployment.


What were the measures in Delhi?

The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory regarding traffic diversions and restrictions along with special parking arrangements in Connaught Place and surrounding areas. The official advisory will be in effect from 7 pm on December 31 until the conclusion of New Year celebrations.

"In anticipation of heavy crowds in Connaught Place and surrounding areas on the occasion of New Year–2026, the Delhi Traffic Police has made special traffic arrangements," the Delhi Police said on X.

What are the restrictions in Mumbai?

The authorities in Mumbai have mobilised more than 17,000 police personnel in anticipation of massive crowds at the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu, and Versova beaches.

"With New Year’s Eve celebrations underway across Mumbai and the suburbs, police checking has been strengthened to maintain law and order," the Mumbai Police posted on X.

The Mumbai Police also announced that the Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) will operate extended services from 10:30 pm on December 31 until 5:55 am on January 1.

What did the Bengaluru Police say?

In Bengaluru, the police imposed traffic restrictions and diversions in the YD Mutt Road area of Koramangala from 5 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1.

Entry of all vehicles were prohibited on several central roads, including MG Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Residency Road Junction, Brigade Road from Cauvery Emporium Junction to Opera Junction, and Church Street from Brigade Road Junction to Museum Road Junction between 8 pm and 2 am. 

What is the situation in Chennai?

The Chennai Police released an advisory for New Year’s Eve, anticipating significant gatherings at Marina and Elliot Beach. "Mass gatherings expected at Marina & Elliot Beach. To ensure a safe celebration, GCTP is implementing traffic diversions, parking arrangements & strict action against rash driving & racing," the Chennai police said in a statement.

What is the situation in Kolkata?

The Kolkata Police announced strict traffic regulations on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. 
"Movement of goods vehicles will also be regulated within the city of Kolkata as and where considered necessary by the Traffic Police on duty on 31.12.2025 and 01.01.2026," Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar Verma said in a statement.


“These measures are designed to minimise congestion and uphold public safety standards at high-density locations,” the statement added.

What are the advisories in Hyderabad?

The Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate imposed traffic diversions and restrictions across the city on the night of December 31. Heightened police deployment was ensured at 217 key and junctions including in areas such as Tank Bund, NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace Road), and commercial and entertainment hubs in Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Khairathabad, and Saifabad.
