PM Modi conducts aerial survey of Punjab, announces financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore

After conducting an aerial survey, Prime Minister Modi reached Gurdaspur, one of the worst affected districts of the state. The Prime Minister met the flood-affected people as well as the NDRF and SDRF teams. Prime Minister Modi also chaired an official meeting in Gurdaspur to review the situation.

National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited flood-affected states. After the visit, the PM has announced financial assistance for Punjab. Financial assistance of Rs 1600 crore has been announced for Punjab. Which is in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore already present in the state treasury. The second installment of SDRF and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be released in advance.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to adopt a multi-pronged approach to help the entire region and its people. This will include measures such as rebuilding houses under the PM Awas Yojana, renovation of national highways, rebuilding schools, providing relief through PMNRF and distributing mini kits for animals.

PM Modi reached Gurdaspur

After conducting an aerial survey, Prime Minister Modi reached Gurdaspur, one of the worst affected districts of the state. The Prime Minister met the flood-affected people as well as the NDRF and SDRF teams. Prime Minister Modi also chaired an official meeting in Gurdaspur to review the situation. According to the official release, the second installment of SDRF and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be released in advance.

Apart from financial assistance, PM Modi also announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹ 50,000 for the injured. For government schools destroyed by the floods, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Before his visit to Punjab, Prime Minister Modi visited Himachal Pradesh and took stock of the flood and landslide situation in the state. After his visit, Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter, "The Government of India stands shoulder to shoulder with the affected people in this sad hour."

Flood in punjab

Punjab is grappling with one of its worst flood disasters in decades, caused by the overflowing of the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers as well as seasonal smaller rivers due to heavy rainfall in their catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Not only has the water level of the rivers risen, but the flood situation has also worsened due to heavy rains in Punjab in recent days.
