PM to Launch ₹4,800 Crore Mega Projects in Tamil Nadu on July 26 — Big Infra Push in Tuticorin

The projects cover airport expansion, road and rail upgrades, port infrastructure, and power transmission lines. On July 27, he will also attend a cultural event celebrating Emperor Rajendra Chola I at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, on July 26 to launch and dedicate several key development projects worth more than ₹4,800 crore. This visit comes just after his return from official visits to the UK and Maldives.

Focus on Infrastructure, Energy, and Transport Projects

At around 8 PM, the Prime Minister will address a public event in Tuticorin and unveil projects aimed at improving roads, airports, ports, railways, and energy infrastructure across Tamil Nadu.
He will inaugurate the new terminal at Tuticorin Airport, built at a cost of ₹450 crore. This terminal covers 17,340 sq. meters and can handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually, with eco-friendly features like LED lighting and a sewage treatment plant.

In road development, two important highway projects will be dedicated

The 4-laning of a 50-km stretch on NH-36, costing ₹2,350 crore, which includes bypasses, bridges, and flyovers to ease travel in the Delta region. The 6-laning of a 5.16 km port road in Tuticorin, worth ₹200 crore, aimed at boosting port-based industries and cargo handling. At V.O. Chidambaranar Port, he will inaugurate North Cargo Berth-III, a ₹285 crore facility with a cargo capacity of 6.96 million metric tonnes per annum.

Rail, Power Projects and Historic Celebrations Also on the Agenda

The PM will also dedicate key rail projects in southern Tamil Nadu, including the electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakkanur line, and doubling of several rail sections to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time. He will lay the foundation stone for a major power transmission project connecting Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant to the national grid, costing ₹550 crore. On July 27, PM Modi will visit Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in Tiruchirappalli for the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival and release a commemorative coin honoring Emperor Rajendra Chola I, marking 1,000 years since his historic maritime expedition and temple construction.
