New Delhi: As the winter session debate in parliament entered its second week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the debate on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The debate got intense as PM accused the Congress of removing certain lines from the song in 1937.
In the Lok Sabha, PM Modi targeted Congress and Nehru for omitting lines from the national song, which as per him lead to partition of India. PM also criticised the Congress rule and highlighted the emergency rule during the 100th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
PM Modi accusing Congress for the division of Vande Mataram and partition of India, said, ''Under the pressure of appeasement politics, the Congress bowed to the division of Vande Mataram, and therefore, the Congress had to bow to the partition of India one day.''
He added, ''That is why it is necessary to know today why injustice and betrayal occurred in the last century with such a great Vande Mataram...''
During the parliament session, PM Modi talking about Vande Mataram song said, ''Vande Mataram also showed India the path to self-reliance. It became the mantra to challenge foreign companies, which led to the expansion of the mantra of independence towards the mantra of Swadeshi.''
PM Modi also stressed about the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and how they kept chanting the Vande Mataram song till their last breath. PM Modi said, ''Countless valiant sons of Mother India embraced the noose on the gallows while chanting Vande Mataram. Until their last moments, Vande Mataram remained their battle cry.''
PM Modi talking about the positive role of Vande Mataram when Britishers tried to divide Bengal, said, ''In the year 1905, the British committed the sin of partitioning Bengal, and at that time Vande Mataram stood firm like a rock.'' He added, ''Vande Mataram revived that idea, which had been woven into every fiber of Bharatvarsha for thousands of years.''
He further added, ''It is the supreme good fortune of all of us to reverently remember that Vande Mataram, the chant and slogan which infused energy and inspiration into the nation's freedom movement, and which showed the path of sacrifice and austerity.''
Meanwhile, Congress MP, Gaurav Gogoi, in his response to PM Modi's remark said, “The BJP speaks of nationalism today - but where were their political ancestors when millions fought the British? Congress leaders made sacrifices, went to jail, gave their lives. The ruling party cannot rewrite history.”
