Chandigarh: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has launched a special CM Flying Squad to oversee the quality of rural roads connecting villages across the state. This new initiative aims to improve Punjab’s village infrastructure while eliminating corruption. The squad consists of senior officials from the Punjab Mandi Board and Public Works Department, who will regularly inspect roads during repair and construction. Chief Minister Mann’s vision is focused on ensuring that every public rupee is used properly for the welfare of citizens.

Squad to Ensure Quality Across Punjab

The CM Flying Squad includes superintending engineers from both departments. Its main role is to check, monitor, and maintain quality while repairing and upgrading rural link roads in all regions, including Malwa, Majha, and Doaba. The squad will work throughout the state to ensure full transparency and accountability in public spending. The initiative is designed to improve road conditions while keeping a close watch on contractors. This move reflects the government’s commitment to using public funds responsibly.

Historic Road Development in Progress

Punjab is now undergoing a major transformation with repair and upgrade work on 19,491 kilometers of rural link roads, at a cost of 4,150.42 crore rupees. The project covers about 7,373 roads across the state. Importantly, contractors will be responsible for maintaining these roads for the next five years—a first in Punjab’s history. Punjab’s total rural road network is approximately 64,878 kilometers, with 33,492 km managed by the Mandi Board and 31,386 km managed by the Public Works Department. This large-scale project shows the Mann government’s serious commitment to developing rural areas.

Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Corruption

The CM Flying Squad also represents a shift toward strict action against corruption. Previous monitoring methods had weaknesses that affected road quality. Now, the government will conduct third-party audits and can recover funds or blacklist contractors if roads do not meet standards. Chief Minister Mann has stated clearly that negligence or corruption will not be tolerated. This approach ensures high-quality roads and strengthens public trust in government initiatives.

Benefits for Villages and Agriculture

Improved rural roads will make transportation easier, help farmers deliver crops faster, and boost the rural economy. This project supports the vision of “Nava Punjab,” aiming for a modern, well-connected state where every rupee spent produces visible results. Under the CM Flying Squad’s supervision, each road comes directly under government accountability. Better roads will also create jobs, enhance trade between villages and cities, and contribute to overall development. Chief Minister Mann emphasizes that smooth roads are vital for agricultural growth and village prosperity. This comprehensive quality-control initiative marks a major step toward safer, better-connected rural areas in Punjab. For the first time, contractors must maintain roads for five years, ensuring lasting results. The Mann government is demonstrating that development is real only when projects are executed honestly. With the upgrade of 19,491 km of roads and the strict monitoring system, Punjab is moving toward a corruption-free, development-focused future under CM Bhagwant Mann’s leadership.
