Chandigarh: The Punjab government has withdrawn the security of Rajya Sabha MP and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, according to the reports on Sunday. The development comes after he resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to news agency PTI reports, citing sources, the Punjab government has withdrawn the security personnel deployed outside Harbhajan Singh's house in the Chhotti Baradari area of Jalandhar on Saturday.
According to reports, the security detail, comprising around 9-10 personnel, was withdrawn on Saturday.
Amid the claims that Raghav Chaddha and Harbhajan Singh have joined the BJP after leaving the AAP, the Punjab government has withdrawn the security of the former star cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP.
Harbhajan had received Z-plus security from the Punjab government. The Aam Aadmi Party is in a state of anger after news of seven MPs, along with Raghav Chaddha, leaving the AAP and joining the BJP.
Aam Aadmi Party workers protested outside the residences of Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Mittal, and Rajinder Gupta. AAP workers spray-painted the words "gaddars" on the boundary wall outside Harbhajan Singh's home. Abusive words were also written on the homes of several other MPs who left AAP. Harbhajan Singh has not yet commented on the incident.
