Baramulla: During a search operation in the Dogripora forest of the Rafiabad area of the Baramulla district of North Kashmir, the Army found two old shells, which were later safely destroyed by a bomb disposal squad through controlled explosion. This action was taken by the Army with full caution, technical efficiency and under prescribed security standards.
Defense sources said a team of 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was on a routine search operation when the troops spotted two suspicious metallic objects in a part of the forest. On examination with a metal detector, it was found that both these objects were cannonballs. Initial investigation speculated that these shells were either left during an old military exercise or could be remnants of some terrorist activity.
The army immediately surrounded the area and restricted the movement of common people due to security reasons. As soon as the information was received, the bomb disposal squad reached the spot and examined the shells following complete technical procedure. After this, both the shells were safely destroyed through a controlled explosion.

Local residents appreciated the promptness and professionalism of the army. He says that if these shells were not found on time, the possibility of a major accident could not be ruled out. This incident once again shows that remnants of past conflicts are still present in the border areas, which can become a threat at any time. In such a situation, regular patrolling and vigilance of the army are extremely important not only for national security but also for the safety of the lives of local citizens.
