Somnath: Somnath: A grand confluence of faith and celebration was seen in the famous Somnath temple of Gujarat on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 'Somnath Amrit Mahotsav' organized on the completion of 75 years of the reconstruction of the temple. A crowd of devotees had started gathering in the temple premises since morning. The entire atmosphere seemed devotional amid Vedic chanting, traditional worship and religious rituals.
This time, for the first time, a special Kumbhabhishek was performed with water brought from 11 holy pilgrimage sites of the country. Prime Minister Modi participated in the rituals along with prayers at the temple. According to religious beliefs, this ceremony is considered an important ritual related to the spiritual energy of the temple.
In ‘Kumbhabhishek’, ‘Kumbh’ means sacred pot and ‘Abhishek’ means sacred bath. In this process, holy water is offered on the shikhara, kalash and deity idols of the temple amidst chanting of mantras. It is considered very auspicious in Hindu tradition.
Before reaching Somnath, Prime Minister Modi did a road show. A large number of people were present on the roadside and they were welcomed by showering flowers at many places. The atmosphere appeared quite enthusiastic amidst traditional musical instruments and cheering.
During the program, Suryakiran team of Indian Air Force presented a spectacular air show. There was special enthusiasm among the people to see the tricks of the planes in the sky. Along with the religious event, this air show became a big attraction of the festival.
Somnath temple holds a prominent place among the 12 Jyotirlingas. Its history has been associated with several reconstructions and conflicts. This is the reason why this temple is considered very important not only from religious but also from cultural and historical point of view.
The Prime Minister also released commemorative postage stamps and special coins related to the heritage of Somnath Temple during the ceremony. The temple premises were decorated with flowers and lights, which added to the grandeur of the entire event.
After the Somnath program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Vadodara. There he will inaugurate the Sardar Dham Hostel and also address a public meeting.
