Chennai: The newly formed government in Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has allocated portfolios to its ministers. According to a notification issued by the Tamil Nadu Public Department, Chief Minister Vijay has retained key portfolios such as Home, Police, and Public Administration. As per the notification, portfolios have been assigned to 10 ministers. This allocation of portfolios marks another major administrative step by the new 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam' (TVK) government. This government has put an end to the decades-old tradition of alternating rule between the DMK and the AIADMK in the state.
Earlier this month, Vijay took the oath of office as Chief Minister. His party, the TVK, emerged as the single largest party and secured the support of coalition partners to form the government. In this new Tamil Nadu cabinet, portfolios have been allocated to 10 ministers. In addition to Home, Police, and Public Administration, Chief Minister Vijay has also retained the portfolios of Women's Welfare and Youth Development. He has established Sports Development as a separate ministry—a move considered distinct from the administrative structure of the previous DMK government.
Adhav Arjun has been entrusted with the Public Works Department and will also shoulder the responsibility for the Sports Development Department. Meanwhile, K.A. Sengottaiyan has been appointed as the Finance Minister. K.G. Arjun Raj will serve as the Health Minister. Furthermore, portfolios such as Rural Development, Education, Industries, Energy, Food and Civil Supplies, and Natural Resources have been allocated to other ministers.

Thalapathy Vijay, serving as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time, may expand his cabinet in the near future. The total strength of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is 234 members. Consequently, in accordance with the 15 percent rule, he can appoint a maximum of 36 ministers. The TVK, led by Chief Minister Vijay, received support from the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), IUML, and VCK to form the government. During the floor test, a faction comprising 25 MLAs from the AIADMK also extended their support. Given this context, Vijay may induct a significant number of these supporting MLAs into his cabinet during the expansion. In the majority test conducted in the Legislative Assembly, Vijay secured the support of 144 MLAs.
