National News: When former minister and Lalu Yadav’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav arrived in Mahnar for an election rally, the crowd turned hostile. RJD supporters chanted “Tejashwi Yadav Zindabad” and “Lantern Symbol Zindabad.” The charged atmosphere quickly escalated, and people chased Tej Pratap away from the rally ground in anger.
Tej Pratap had come to seek votes for Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) candidate Jai Singh Rathore. However, RJD workers objected strongly. Rathore alleged that the entire protest was orchestrated by RJD candidate Ravindra Singh, terming it a deliberate conspiracy.
During the rally, Tej Pratap spoke for nearly an hour. But chaos erupted as he began to leave. Though he had arrived by helicopter, delays forced him to return by road. It was during this exit that RJD loyalists created a ruckus, following his convoy and shouting slogans against him.
JJD candidate Jai Singh Rathore accused RJD rival Ravindra Singh of “buying” his ticket for 15–16 crore rupees. He further claimed that Singh was planning to spend crores on liquor and cash distribution, and would resort to violence if defeated. Rathore demanded strict security from the administration.
The controversy is not limited to elections alone; it reflects cracks within the Yadav family. Tej Pratap has publicly attacked his younger brother Tejashwi, accusing him of misusing Lalu Prasad’s legacy and calling himself a false “Jan Nayak” (People’s Leader).
Recently, Tej Pratap declared that only leaders directly connected with the masses-like Lalu Prasad, Karpoori Thakur, Ambedkar, and Mahatma Gandhi — deserved the title of Jan Nayak. He accused Tejashwi of hiding behind his father’s shadow instead of working at the grassroots.
The Mahnar incident has added fire to Bihar’s already heated electoral scene. With family feuds spilling into public rallies and charges of corruption, voters are witnessing a bitter campaign season. How this intra-family clash affects the NDA-RJD-JJD contest remains to be seen.
