Tripura’s Khowai district witnessed chaos on Sunday when over 50 people, claimed to be Tipra Motha supporters, reportedly attacked a Mann Ki Baat gathering. The incident occurred at booth number 30 in Asaram Bari during the live broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio program.
BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma alleged that the attackers came with sticks, rods, and sharp weapons. “They threw bricks and bottles at us. They damaged my car and beat up the person hosting the event. They also broke 15 bikes and many other vehicles,” he said in a media interview.
Debbarma said 6 BJP workers were injured in the attack. “Some were hit on the head, mouth, and chest,” he added. He accused Tipra Motha of trying to create fear and disturb a peaceful program held in honour of the Prime Minister. Tipra Motha is part of the BJP-led alliance in Tripura, under Chief Minister Manik Saha’s leadership.
Earlier this month, Tipra Motha Party chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma claimed that Bangladeshi citizens were buying land in tribal areas of Tripura. He said that the state is slowly losing its land, inch by inch. He accused both the BJP and Congress of ignoring the issue for political benefits.
He said, “I have just got proof that a person from Bangladesh has bought land in a tribal area, and the land is now registered in his name.
He added, “When I raise these matters, some people from Congress and BJP attack me. But should I stay silent while outsiders take over our land and politicians focus only on short-term politics?”
