New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a powerful speech in Parliament on Monday regarding the battle against Naxalism. He stated that Naxalism has been virtually eradicated from Bastar, and the region is now on the path of development.
Amit Shah remarked, "Today, Naxalism has been almost completely wiped out from Bastar. A campaign was launched to establish a school in every village across Bastar. An initiative was undertaken to open a ration shop in every single village of the region. Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) have been established in every Tehsil and Panchayat."
Amit Shah noted that residents have been issued Aadhaar cards and ration cards, and they are now receiving 5 kilograms of food grains. He asserted, "I wish to ask those who were advocating for Naxalism here: why were the people deprived of these facilities until now? The people of Bastar were left behind because the shadow of 'Red Terror' loomed over the region; it was for this very reason that development could not reach there. Today, that shadow has lifted, and Bastar is now marching forward on the path of development."
The Home Minister stated, "To those who advocate for armed struggle—claiming they are fighting against injustice—I ask: will you respect the Constitution or not? If anyone faces injustice, the courts exist to address it; legislative assemblies are in place, and District Councils and Tehsils have been constituted. I wish to emphasize that that era has now come to an end. This is the government of Narendra Modi. Anyone who takes up arms will be held accountable. Such conduct will not be tolerated. The government is sensitive to these issues; it is ready to listen to all grievances and remains committed to resolving them."
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the fight against Naxalism, Home Minister Shah questioned why—despite the Congress party holding power for 60 of the 75 years since independence—the tribal communities remained deprived of development. He asserted that it is only now, following the advent of Narendra Modi, that genuine development is finally taking place in these regions. For 60 years, the Congress failed to provide tribals with homes, clean water, or schools, and did not extend mobile towers or banking facilities to them. Now, those very same people are demanding accountability.
