National News: A major cloudburst occurred in the Dharali area near Harshil in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, due to which several villages were washed away. At least 4 people have died in this accident, and 50 people are still missing. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya has confirmed this. This disaster has caused massive devastation in the area, and police, SDRF, army, and other rescue teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on the spot.
In fact, due to a cloudburst, the water level of the Kiar Gadh river in Harshil rose rapidly, causing heavy damage in the Dharali area. Many houses were swept away by the force of the fierce floodwater, creating horrific scenes in the area. Locals said that about 10-12 people may be buried under the debris, while 20-25 hotels and homestays have been swept away in the flood. This incident has caused an outcry in the surrounding villages.
Uttarakhand Police said that police, ITBP, NDRF, and army teams have been immediately sent to the spot, and they are continuously carrying out search and rescue operations. The Disaster Control Center has also issued instructions for immediate help in this area. Home Minister Amit Shah has also contacted Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and taken stock of the situation.
The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rains in many areas of Uttarakhand. Due to this rain, rivers are in spate in many parts of the state, and landslides have also occurred at many places due to the strong currents. Earlier also during the monsoon, there were reports of many people being swept away or drowning in the strong currents around Bhakra Nala and Bhujiaghat.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed all the District Magistrates to remain present on the spot with the entire team in their respective areas. He has told the officials that if the roads are closed due to heavy rains, then they should make arrangements to open them as soon as possible. If there is any kind of obstruction in the supply of drinking water and electricity, it should be resolved immediately. The Chief Minister has also ordered to be prepared in advance and make alternative arrangements to deal with the problem of waterlogging.
