New Delhi: The Southwest Monsoon is steadily advancing. Currently, it is affecting parts of the west-central region and the Bay of Bengal, according to a press release by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon has entered parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. On June 8, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of Northwest India, Central India, and some western states. Rainfall activity is expected to increase in the northeastern and southern states.
On Monday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places across Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Extremely heavy rainfall is also possible in Karnataka between June 8 and 10. Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, and south interior Karnataka may witness torrential rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Farmers and the general public in these regions have been advised to remain alert, as heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging and damage to crops.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and squalls are likely across Northeast India—including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—on Monday. Moderate to heavy rainfall and storms may also occur in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. Road and air transport services in these states could be disrupted. The IMD has urged people in these regions to exercise caution and stay updated on weather forecasts.
On June 8, maximum temperatures are likely to range between 38°C and 44°C across parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Heatwave-like conditions may develop in some areas. However, cloudy skies and light rain in certain localities could provide some relief from the heat.
The Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for heatwave conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall has been forecast for the state up to June 12. A 'yellow alert' was issued for Una, Bilaspur, and Solan districts for Tuesday and Wednesday.
