New Delhi: On May 16, weather patterns are expected to undergo a shift across several parts of the country. This information was provided in the latest press release issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A possibility of rain and thunderstorms has been forecast for Northwest India, the Northeastern states, and South India. Additionally, the impact of heatwaves is expected to persist in certain states. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding lightning strikes and strong winds—blowing at speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour—in various regions. Consequently, the public has been advised to remain vigilant.

The intense heat is expected to persist in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Heatwave conditions are likely to develop in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Punjab starting Saturday. Temperatures could remain significantly high in Western Rajasthan. In some parts of Uttar Pradesh, dust storms accompanied by heatwave conditions may also occur. However, light rain and thunderstorms remain a possibility in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which could lead to a slight drop in temperatures in those areas.

What is Weather Update for Bihar and Jharkhand?

Weather activity is expected to be more pronounced across Eastern and Northeastern India. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is forecast for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha. In Bihar, some locations may experience squalls with wind speeds ranging from 50 to 70 kilometers per hour. Rain is also likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Certain areas of Assam and Meghalaya could witness heavy rainfall, potentially leading to waterlogging and landslides.

Is Rain Expected in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh?

In Central India—specifically Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Vidarbha region—light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely. The impact of strong winds and rain may also be observed in the Konkan, Goa, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra regions of the state. In Gujarat, the weather is currently expected to remain dry, although a slight dip in temperatures is possible. The Meteorological Department has advised farmers and individuals working in open areas to exercise caution.

What is Weather Update for Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh?

In South India—specifically Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema—spells of rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue. Heavy rainfall may occur in parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and South Interior Karnataka. According to the IMD, conditions are becoming favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. The Andaman and Nicobar region will also continue to experience heavy rainfall and strong sea winds. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay away from trees and electricity poles during adverse weather conditions.
