New Delhi: As the month of September progresses, the weather has started feeling slightly cooler in many parts of the country. But before the complete departure of monsoon, the weather is likely to worsen once again in many states. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding rain, thunderstorms and lightning in about 20 states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
According to the Meteorological Department, in some states, winds can blow at a speed of 70 to 75 kilometres per hour along with heavy rain. The impact of the storm may be more visible in Odisha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. At the same time, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning in many areas of Eastern India.
According to IMD forecast, there may be rain in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Saturday.
There is a possibility of strong thunderstorms with heavy rain at some places. People have also been advised to be cautious about lightning in the states of Eastern India.
The weather may change in the capital Delhi on Saturday. There is a possibility of strong winds along with light rain here. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi.
Today the maximum temperature in Delhi can be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature can be around 24 degrees Celsius. During this period the wind speed is likely to reach 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.
There is an alert of strong winds along with rain in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of bad weather in Bulandshahr, Etah, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Sitapur, Auraiya, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Sambhal, Agra, Etawah, Moradabad, Bijnor, Mainpuri, Hapur, Hathras, Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi and Prayagraj.
There is a need to be careful about storms and lightning during rains in these areas.
In Bihar too, warning of rain and storm has been issued for many districts. Heavy rain may occur in Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Gopalganj, Patna, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Khagaria, Munger, Darbhanga, Purnia, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gaya and Vaishali.
There is also a possibility of lightning and strong winds during bad weather.
Periods of rain and strong winds may also be seen in hilly states. There is a possibility of rain and thunderstorms in Solan, Kangra, Una, Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur and Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh. Here the wind speed can reach 45 to 50 kilometres per hour.
Yellow alert has been issued in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir including Ramban, Kishtwar, Jammu, Kulgam, Rajouri and Anantnag. Here winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 65 kilometres per hour.
There is an alert of rain and storm in Bageshwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal and Dehradun of Uttarakhand. The wind speed in these areas is likely to be 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
The risk of falling trees, power poles or weak structures may increase during rain and strong winds. One should avoid going to open places during lightning. People travelling in hilly areas should pay attention to local weather updates and advice from the administration.
