National News: Authorities in India have arrested Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra on serious charges of spying for Pakistan. This arrest comes amid a crackdown on espionage activities in the Malerkotla region, which covers parts of Punjab and Haryana. So far, six individuals have been caught involved in similar covert operations favoring Pakistan, and Jyoti Malhotra is the latest addition to this list. The investigation has revealed a well-organized network engaged in secret communication and information sharing that poses a severe threat to India’s national security.
During the course of the investigation, it was uncovered that Jyoti Malhotra was in regular contact with a Pakistani officer named Danish, who works at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Danish played a key role in managing Jyoti’s travel arrangements to Pakistan and acted as a liaison for passing sensitive information. Jyoti, who runs a popular travel YouTube channel, traveled to Pakistan twice, under Danish’s supervision. During these visits, she was introduced to various intelligence and security personnel of Pakistan.
While in Pakistan, Jyoti was introduced to Ali Ahwan, an associate of Danish, who took responsibility for arranging her stay and coordinating meetings with Pakistan’s intelligence officials. She was also in touch with other operatives such as Shakir and Rana Shahbaz, who were involved in gathering and transmitting intelligence. To avoid raising suspicion, Jyoti saved Shakir’s phone number under a false name on her device. Upon returning to India, she maintained ongoing communication with these contacts through encrypted social media apps including WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Telegram, exchanging sensitive and anti-national information.
Repeated interrogation sessions confirmed Jyoti’s active and ongoing association with Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. She was seen meeting Danish several times at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi before and after her trips. Her actions are being treated as a serious breach of India’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The Government of India has declared the Pakistani official involved as persona non grata, effectively banning him from the country. Jyoti Malhotra faces stringent legal action for endangering national security by sharing classified information with an enemy state.
The arrest of Jyoti Malhotra highlights the increasing challenges posed by espionage activities using social media and online platforms. Her case underlines the vulnerabilities within digital communication channels that can be exploited by hostile foreign agencies to undermine India’s safety and strategic interests. Security agencies are now focusing on tightening surveillance and counterintelligence measures to prevent similar breaches in the future.
