New Delhi: A strong earthquake struck Pakistan on Saturday. The impact was felt even in the Indian border areas. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake's magnitude was 5.8 on the Richter scale. However, no damage has been reported so far.
According to reports, the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 50 kilometers from the city of Khuzdar in Balochistan province at around 10 a.m. The depth of the epicenter was only 10 kilometers. These types of earthquakes typically cause more damage at the surface. According to a Pakistani government department, cracks have appeared in many buildings. People rushed out of their homes when the earthquake struck.
When the epicenter of an earthquake is deep underground, the energy spreads farther, and its impact is felt farther, but the intensity of the tremors was less. Balochistan lies at the junction of the Eurasian and Arabian tectonic plates, making it more prone to earthquakes. Near Khuzdar, there are several faults whose displacement can trigger earthquakes. Earthquakes of magnitude 5 to 6 typically occur here.
Initial reports indicate that some buildings were damaged. However, no deaths have been reported. Fears of aftershocks have gripped the public.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 struck Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district early Saturday morning. The National Centre for Seismology said the tremors were felt in the Rampur area, about 130 km from the state capital. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake tremor was felt for a few seconds at around 4:36 am. It stated that the epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers below the ground.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) stated that there were no reports of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake. Frequent earthquakes in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh have worried locals. Recently, mild tremors were felt in Shimla on the morning of August 26th.
