Indore: Two Australian women cricketers visiting India for the ICC Women’s World Cup were allegedly harassed on Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area while walking from their hotel to a cafe. They sent an SOS alert immediately, and security staff rushed to help. Danny Simmons, the team’s security manager, filed a complaint at the MIG police station that evening. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused, Aqeel Khan, who was on a motorcycle at the time. The players were staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel with the rest of their team.
According to news reports, the incident took place in the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning. Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said the cricketers were walking to a cafe when a man on a bike began following them. He allegedly touched them inappropriately before speeding away.
The players immediately contacted Danny Simmons, their team security officer, who coordinated with local security officers and sent a vehicle to assist them. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two players, recorded their statements, and registered a First Information Report under Section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and Section 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.
A bystander noted the motorcycle number, which helped the police identify and arrest Aqeel Khan. The official stated that Khan had previous criminal cases, and further investigation is ongoing.
