Sports News: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested a wise take to the India skipper, Shubman Gill. The batter was given out LBW off Brydon Carse in the second innings, piling on to India's misery. Manjrekar suggests that England's aggressive tactics may have made Gill a bit impatient. He looked tentative in his short stay in the second innings, playing six balls very uncertainly. It was a crucial phase in the dying moments of day 4, where India stumbled from 41-1 to 58-4, raising many concerns.
The series so far has been the one to remember with the bat for Gill. Although his two innings in the third test at Lord's could only compile a total of 22 runs, his previous knocks have been breathtaking. Gill scored 269 and 161 in the Edgbaston test, which was followed by an immaculate 147 at Leeds in the first test. Manjrekar said Gill suddenly looking tentative last evening had a lot to do with hostility he got at the crease from England.
Manjrekar compared Gill's temperament to that of the former Indian greats—Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli. He said that these two skippers were exact opposites. Virat extracted the best out of himself when he was angry, while Dhoni used to remain calm and composed. The former cricketer suggested to Gill that he should decide what suits him better. The drama at the end of day 3 that involved a verbal banter between Gill and Zak Crawley might have been one of the factors.
Shubman Gill has now scored 609 runs in the ongoing test series. This is the highest by any Indian batter in England in a test series, beating Rahul Dravid's tally of 602 back in 2002. The Indian skipper has scored three centuries, which also included a sensational double-ton and a half-century.
