New Chandigarh: In Qualifier 2 of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals' 15-year-old star batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again left everyone spellbound with his batting prowess. However, this time his innings was not limited merely to blistering shots; it also showcased composure, maturity, and a responsible approach to batting that was perfectly tailored to the match situation.
In the match played against Gujarat Titans on Friday (May 29) at the Maharaja Yadavendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur), Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 96 runs off 47 balls. During his innings, he smashed 8 fours and 7 sixes, piling up runs at a blistering strike rate of 204.26.
Interestingly, Vaibhav batted with a degree of caution during the initial overs. He prioritized preserving his wicket and, once settled, launched a fierce assault on the Gujarat bowlers. This strategic approach is precisely what set his innings apart from his previous outings.
Vaibhav was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada while on a score of 96. This marked the third time in this IPL season that he fell victim to the "nervous nineties." With this instance, he joined an elite list—alongside David Warner, KL Rahul, Glenn Maxwell, and Ruturaj Gaikwad—of batsmen who have been dismissed in the 90s the most number of times in IPL history.
Thanks to his magnificent innings, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial innings of 45 runs, while Donovan Ferreira provided a strong finish for the team by smashing 38 runs off just 11 balls.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi also claimed several major records to his name during this match. He became the fastest batsman in IPL history—in terms of balls faced—to complete 1,000 runs. He reached this milestone in just 440 balls. Previously, this record was held by Andre Russell, who had completed his 1,000 runs in 545 balls. Furthermore, Vaibhav has climbed to the joint second spot on the list of players to complete 1,000 runs in the fewest IPL innings. He achieved this milestone in just 23 innings. In this regard, Shaun Marsh holds the top spot with 21 innings.
In the 2026 IPL season, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already amassed 775 runs, propelling him to the fifth position on the list of batsmen with the most runs in a single season. Virat Kohli continues to lead this list, having scored 973 runs in 2016. The manner in which Vaibhav Suryavanshi is consistently breaking records at such a young age suggests that Indian cricket has found itself a future superstar.
