New Delhi: PV Sindhu has decided to step away from the rest of the 2025 Badminton World Federation (BWF) season. The decision comes as she focuses entirely on recovering from a foot injury that has been causing her discomfort for several months. The 30-year-old player made this choice following in-depth discussions with her medical team and coaches.
Sindhu consulted with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a well-known sports orthopedic surgeon, along with her core support team before making this decision. The medical professionals advised her to prioritize rehabilitation in order to be fully fit for key tournaments in 2026. In a statement, Sindhu said, "My leg injury has not completely healed. After talking with the doctors and the team, we concluded that the best choice is to rest and fully focus on rehabilitation. It's not easy to deal with an injury, but this is when a player's true character is tested."
Following her early exit at the Olympics, the 2025 season did not meet Sindhu's expectations. She reached the quarterfinals at the India Open Super 750, World Championship, and China Masters Super 750, but was eliminated in the early rounds of several other events. However, she managed to secure second place at the Malaysia Masters 2025 and ended the year on a positive note by winning the Syed Modi International Super 300 title.
During her break, Sindhu will work on improving her physical fitness, movement, and balance. She aims to return in 2026, which features several major tournaments and qualification events. She added, "I will use this time not only to recover but also to build myself stronger. I am confident that I will come back even better."
Fans and experts have praised Sindhu's decision as both brave and wise. Coaches and badminton professionals believe that taking this extended break could help prolong her career and enable her to make a strong comeback in 2026.
