Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made headlines on Day 4 of the first Test against England at Headingley by scoring a second century in the same match. By doing this, Pant has made Test history by being the first Indian wicketkeeper to hit hundreds in both innings of a match.

Twin Centuries Seal Pant’s Place in Record Books

Pant started the game strong with a brilliant 134 in the first innings, and followed it up with another remarkable 118 in the second innings. This performance not only helped India dominate England but also placed Pant in a very exclusive group of cricketers globally. The only other wicketkeeper in Test cricket to accomplish this uncommon accomplishment is Andy Flower of Zimbabwe, who scored 142 and 199 against South Africa in 2001. He is now only the second wicketkeeper to do it.

Joining Legends with Consistency in England

Pant’s latest milestone also puts him among an elite set of visiting batters who have recorded five consecutive 50-plus scores in England. Cricket legends like Don Bradman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Hansie Cronje, Kumar Sangakkara, and Daryl Mitchell are on that list. The current record holder is Steven Smith of Australia with seven such scores.

Among India’s All-Time Test Greats

There are very few Indian batsmen who have made hundreds in both Test innings. Pant now joins this prestigious group that includes Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (three times), Rahul Dravid (twice), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma.

However, what makes Pant’s achievement even more special is that he is the only Indian to have done it in England, further proving his class and temperament in foreign conditions. Rishabh Pant’s twin centuries not only highlight his talent but also confirm his place as one of India’s most impactful Test players of the modern era.
