A trainee pilot working with IndiGo has filed a police complaint accusing three coworkers of caste-based harassment during a workplace meeting. The alleged incident took place on April 28, during which the pilot claims he was insulted and demeaned by the trio.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed with the Haryana Police, the pilot said one of the individuals spoke to him in a disrespectful and insulting manner before the meeting began. He further alleged that he was called caste-based slurs and told he was unfit to fly an aircraft.
In response to the grievance, a case has been filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as well as the pertinent BNS sections. The FIR states that the pilot experienced public humiliation and verbal abuse based on his caste identity.
Authorities have begun the investigation, and the case is being handled as a serious matter under laws that protect individuals from caste-based discrimination and abuse.
In response, IndiGo issued a public statement strongly denying the charges. A company spokesperson stated that the airline maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against all forms of bias, harassment, and discrimination.
The airline also emphasized its commitment to fairness and inclusivity at the workplace. "We refute these baseless claims and continue to uphold our values of fairness, integrity, and accountability," the statement read. IndiGo also mentioned that it is ready to cooperate fully with any law enforcement investigations.
The incident has raised concerns about workplace conduct and discrimination within the aviation industry. IndiGo has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a respectful and safe work environment for all workers while the legal proceedings are still in progress.
