Sports News: India Women created a new record in the third T20I against England at the Kennington Oval, London. The first two matches were comprehensively won by India before the England Women won the third T20I by a mere margin of 5 runs. England has managed to fight another day in this five-match series. When Sophia Dunkley and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge stitched a 137-run opening partnership, it seemed like they were closing in on 200. That's when India' spinners stepped up and turned the match around, creating an impeccable record.
When the English women were cruising along at 136/0, Deepti Sharma, the off-spinner, struck first, dismissing Dunkley caught and bowled for 75. After the first wicket, the hosts fell like a stack of cards. Deepti and medium-pacer Arundhati Reddy picked up three wickets each and left England tumbling. Soon, they were reduced to 171/9. Astonishingly, India picked up these nine wickets in a span of just 25 deliveries, completely baffling England's hopes. This record is unique across all forms of men's and women's international cricket.
The off-spinner all-rounder, who has been an improved version of herself in the recent past, picked her 300th T20I wicket at the Kennington Oval on Friday. Her first wicket of the match, which accounted for Sophia Dunkley, also became her 300th. Dunkley's wicket started England's downfall, as Deepti set the tone. She then went on to pick two more wickets, getting rid of Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Filer for 10 and 0, respectively.
The England women managed to win the third match of the series and keep it alive. After getting outplayed by the visitors in the first two games, the hosts kept their nerve in the thrilling encounter. England set a target of 172 for India, winning the match by five runs. India's opener Smriti Mandhana was the highest scorer for her team (56 off 49). England's Filer picked up 2 wickets, while Lauren Bell, Issy Wong, and Ecclestone picked up one each. The fourth T20I will be played on 9th July in Manchester.
