New Delhi: A 25-year-old UPSC aspirant from Andhra Pradesh was found dead inside his locked flat in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar on Monday, prompting a police investigation. Preliminary inquiries have indicated possible academic stress, bringing renewed attention to the emotional and mental health challenges faced by candidates preparing for competitive examinations.

Police Begin Investigation Into Student’s Death

According to police, a call reporting a suspected suicide was received at 2:38 pm on Monday from a property at 11A/16, Old Rajinder Nagar. Officers reached the location and found Alta Bharat Kumar Reddy, 25, dead inside the flat.

Reddy, originally from Andhra Pradesh, had been living in Delhi to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.

Police reportedly recovered a note from the scene that allegedly referred to study-related stress and depression. Investigators have not found any clear initial indications of foul play, although the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.

How Can Competitive Exam Aspirants Receive Better Support?

The incident has renewed concerns about the pressures faced by young people pursuing highly competitive examinations. Long preparation periods, demanding study schedules and uncertainty about results can make emotional support and access to appropriate mental health care particularly important.

Recognising signs of distress early, maintaining supportive relationships and making professional help accessible can help students navigate difficult periods during their preparation.

The case also highlights the importance of treating mental well-being as an essential part of students’ lives, alongside academic preparation and career ambitions.

Police Continue to Examine the Circumstances

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the aspirant’s death. The initial findings remain preliminary, and the case has not yet reached a final conclusion.

The incident is a reminder that students preparing for competitive examinations need understanding, encouragement and access to support when academic pressure becomes difficult to manage
