New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has called upon citizens to actively protect democratic institutions and uphold constitutional values, stressing that an informed and responsible public is essential for a strong democracy.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the public awareness conference titled 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' held on Sunday at Agarwal Dharamshala in Rohini Sector 8.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said democracy can flourish only when citizens remain aware, democratic institutions are respected and constitutional principles are protected. He emphasised that safeguarding democracy is not the responsibility of any single individual or institution but a collective duty shared by every citizen.
He described democracy as more than a system of governance, calling it a reflection of the collective will and aspirations of the people. Transparency, accountability, the rule of law and constructive dialogue, he said, form its essential foundations.
Gupta urged people to remain conscious of both their constitutional rights and civic responsibilities. He said citizens must contribute actively to nation-building while ensuring that democratic values remain central to public life.
He also highlighted the importance of respecting democratic institutions and strengthening the rule of law as key features of a stable democratic system.
Delhi Government Minister Kapil Mishra, Municipal Corporation of Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, councillors Rita Goyal and Smita Kaushik, along with several public representatives and political figures, attended the event.
Participants also discussed ways to strengthen democratic institutions and encourage greater public participation in democratic processes.
