New Delhi: Political activity has intensified ahead of the proposed 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has claimed that vehicles without number plates are following him and Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel are monitoring his house. He expressed apprehension that Delhi Police may take him into custody on Friday morning. On the other hand, Delhi Police and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have tightened security in the Central Park located at Connaught Place.
In the press conference held on Thursday, Dipke claimed that IB personnel were taking information about him from the watchman posted outside his house. He also alleged that vehicles without number plates were following him. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Dipke said that the party members will go to hoist the tricolor peacefully. He warned that if hoisting the national flag is considered a crime, he is ready to go to jail. Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that the party will not back down from its demands.
CJP has appealed to its supporters and common people to gather with the tricolour in Central Park of Connaught Place at 5 pm on Friday. The party says that this demonstration is being organised to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post and to protest against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
Dipke clarified that his party is not demanding a change of government but is demanding the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner and appointment of an independent and impartial person in his place. He alleged that Gyanesh Kumar was not listening to the opposition and other election commissioners.
Amid CJP's proposed march, NDMC has announced that Connaught Place's Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17. Citing administrative reasons, the council has requested to make security arrangements to prevent unauthorized entry into the park.
Questioning the decision to keep the park closed, Dipke said that if his party announces to hoist the tricolor at 100 places, will the administration close all 100 places? He also questioned whether people carrying the Tricolor at other political rallies would also be stopped in the same manner.
Dipke has expressed apprehension that the police may take him into custody at night or on Friday morning. He also mentioned the arrest of his colleagues Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka and alleged that party members were being targeted over the tricolor hoisting issue.
However, there is no mention of any official confirmation from the police regarding the possible arrest of Dipke in the available information. In such a situation, this claim should be seen only as their apprehension.
Delhi Police has informed that prohibitory orders have been imposed to maintain law and order in Connaught Place and surrounding areas. Citing restrictions under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), people have been appealed to stay away from the march area.
The administration says that the purpose of these steps is to maintain peace and protect public property. Between CJP's march, decision to keep the park closed and Dipke's allegations, now everyone's eyes are on the activities to be held on Friday.
