New Delhi: Political activities are likely to intensify further on Monday amid the ongoing tension over the demonstration of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in the capital Delhi. For the last two days, youth have been trying to protest on the call of the party, while Delhi Police has tightened security arrangements to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, the opposition has also announced to take to the streets. Under the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, opposition leaders are preparing to take out a march from India Gate to the Supreme Court.
At the same time, CJP leaders are going to reach Sansad Marg Police Station at 10 am on Monday and ask for a new date and permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. In such a situation, there are chances of increasing political turmoil in the capital.
Rahul Gandhi has announced to start the march from India Gate at 1:30 pm along with opposition leaders and proceed to the Supreme Court. After this, the opposition leaders will try to meet Chief Justice Surya Kant to convey their concerns and submit a memorandum. However, according to reports the Chief Justice had already refused to give time for the meeting. Despite this, Congress has continued with the march plan.
According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge had sought time from the Chief Justice to request his intervention on issues related to the Election Commission. Sources say that the Chief Justice said that the hearing on the related subject is going on in the court, hence the meeting at this stage would not be appropriate. Earlier, the leaders of India Alliance had met President Draupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum to him.
Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal have appealed to the people to participate in the march in large numbers. Congress has described it as a campaign related to the protection of voting rights and democracy. Calling it a 'do or die' fight, party leaders have called for participation from supporters. However, everyone will keep an eye on the security arrangements and traffic situation during the march.
CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka informed on social media platform Their aim is to ask for a date and permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. There is no clarity regarding the participation of party founder Abhijit Deepke in this programme. His grandmother passed away on Saturday and he has gone to his native village.
There was controversy over police action and restrictions on public movement during CJP's protest. Earlier, the Supreme Court had emphasised removing barricades, restoring internet services and running metro and rail services normally. Despite this, there were reports of entry and exit being closed at some metro stations on Monday. Passengers have been advised to check the relevant metro and traffic advisories before travelling.
Police deployment will be important in view of the proposed CJP demonstration and opposition march in the capital. The situation in Delhi will be decided by the political activities taking place throughout the day, decisions regarding police permissions and traffic arrangements.
