Delhi CM Rekha Gupta makes BIG announcement: WFH two days a week; metro on Mondays

New Delhi: Following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Delhi government has announced a "Work from Home" policy for two days a week. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued this call to action in light of the prevailing situation in the country. Consequently, a campaign titled "Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan" (My India, My Contribution) is being launched within Delhi.

What did Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announce?

She added that preparations regarding petrol and diesel consumption have been undertaken at two levels: within the government sector, a two-day-a-week "Work from Home" policy will be implemented; simultaneously, an advisory will be issued for the private sector as well. She clarified that these decisions will come into effect on May 15 (Friday) and the campaign will continue for the next 90 days.

The Delhi CM further informed that the number of government vehicles has been reduced. Previously, officials were allotted 200 liters of petrol per month; this quota has now been cut by 20 percent. She also announced that every Monday will be observed as "Metro Monday," on which day ministers and all officials will commute exclusively via the Metro. CM Rekha Gupta has appealed to universities to conduct non-practical classes online. Additionally, an appeal has been made to the courts to conduct hearings online. Citizens have been requested to refrain from traveling abroad for a period of one year.

Were Office Timings Revised?

Delhi's roads experience heavy traffic during the morning and evening rush hours, leading to congestion. To address this issue, office timings have been staggered. The official working hours for the Delhi government will be from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, while MCD offices will remain open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The CM has appealed to the people of Delhi to observe one day a week as a "No Vehicle Day." Furthermore, the Delhi government has decided against purchasing any new vehicles for the next six months. The government has also decided to increase the transport allowance by 10 percent. Finally, an appeal has been made to the business community to utilize trains instead of trucks for the transportation of goods.

What Are Major Decisions by the Delhi CM?

- 50% of meetings will be held online.
- A Single-Window Help Desk will be established within the Labour Department.
- Foreign travel is to be avoided.
- No Minister or official of the Delhi Government will undertake any foreign travel for the next one year.
- Major public events will not be organized for the next three months.
- A special travel plan will be formulated for Delhi.
- To promote 'Made in India,' dedicated 'Made in India' corners will be set up in all shopping malls.
- The Delhi Government will prioritize products manufactured in India.
- Air conditioners in all government offices will be operated at a temperature of 24–26 degrees Celsius.
- A master switch system will be installed to prevent the wastage of electricity.
