New Delhi: The movement for fair compensation for agricultural land in Delhi has gained fresh support, with the Delhi Panchayat Sangh extending its backing to the ongoing sit-in by the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti outside the SDM office in Kanjhawala. As the protest completed 70 days, the organisation urged the Delhi government to raise the circle rate for agricultural land to ₹10 crore per acre and announce a decision before Diwali.
Delhi Panchayat Sangh chief Than Singh Yadav said the farmers’ struggle was not merely about compensation but also about safeguarding their rights, dignity and the future of coming generations. The protest was chaired by Chaudhary Sudhir Raj Dabas. The gathering also highlighted farmers’ concerns and their demand to present pending issues before the Chief Minister.
Yadav said farmers in Delhi had suffered financial losses over several decades because compensation for their land had remained lower than rates offered in neighbouring states. He called on the government to recognise their concerns and fix the agricultural land circle rate at ₹10 crore per acre.
He also demanded that agricultural land should not be acquired until an appropriate compensation rate had been established.
The Delhi Panchayat Sangh also called for granting ownership rights to residents of villages by removing restrictions associated with Lal Dora and extended Lal Dora areas. Other demands included exemption from house tax, relief from building regulations and the inclusion of all villages in the notified commercial category.
The organisation further stressed that Gram Sabha agricultural land should be protected and reserved for rural development projects and public amenities.
Yadav expressed hope that the pending demands of rural residents could be addressed, noting that the same political party governed the Centre, the Delhi government and the municipal corporation. He urged the authorities to take a decision before Diwali and provide relief to farmers who have continued their protest for 70 days.
