New Delhi:Delhi Police paid tribute to personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty during a commemorative programme held at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri on Saturday, October 24. Senior officers, police personnel and families of fallen officers gathered to honour their courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice in protecting the nation and its citizens.
The programme brought together members of the force and bereaved families, reaffirming the department’s commitment to preserving the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.
The event began with a ‘Run for Martyrs’ led by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar. The run, organised from Nehru Park to the National Police Memorial, conveyed a message of respect for fallen personnel and solidarity with their families.
Upon reaching the memorial, the police commissioner and senior officers laid floral tributes to honour the bravery and service of the martyrs.
As part of the programme, families of Delhi Police personnel who died in the line of duty were felicitated. A special film highlighting the courage, valour and dedication of police personnel was also screened.
The families visited the memorial museum and paid their respects at the ‘Wall of Valour’, which commemorates personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties.
In the evening, Special Commissioner of Police, Armed Police, Vijay Kumar, accompanied by senior officers and their spouses, visited the memorial and laid a wreath in honour of the fallen personnel.
The Delhi Police Brass Band and Pipe Band then presented patriotic performances, creating an atmosphere of pride and remembrance. The programme concluded with a ‘Beating Retreat’ ceremony and tributes at the Wall of Valour.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across India every year on October 21 to remember police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. Following the main event at the National Police Memorial, programmes are organised for various central police organisations and forces on designated days from October 22 to 30.
This year, Delhi Police was entrusted with organising the programme on October 24. The force also reaffirmed its commitment to honouring fallen personnel through remembrance events across its districts and units between October 22 and 30.
The commemorations serve as a reminder of the courage and dedication of police personnel and the enduring contribution of their families, who continue to bear the loss of their loved ones.
