New Delhi: What happened in Delhi's Zafarpur Kalan on Sunday night is heart-wrenching. Pandav Kumar, 21, who used to feed himself and his family by delivering food daily, was returning from a birthday party. Friend Krishna was also with him. At 2:30 in the night, both of them were standing on the road talking to the party hosts, just this one "mistake" took the Pandavas' lives that night.
A person named Neeraj came down from the house opposite. He objected to Pandavas and Krishna standing on the road. The matter escalated, caste based abuses were made and what happened next should not happen to anyone. Neeraj fired a bullet from close range at the chest of Pandav Kumar sitting on the motorcycle. The bullet passed through and entered the right side of the stomach of Krishna who was sitting behind. Both were immediately taken to the hospital but the Pandavas could not be saved. Krishna's treatment is still going on.
Pandav's mother Meena Devi's eyes filled with tears when she told that Neeraj first asked her son's caste. As soon as it was found out that he was from Bihar, he just opened fire and ran away from the spot. The family clearly alleges that Neeraj was drunk at that time and the firing was done without any provocation. There was no quarrel, no old enmity, just asked the caste and pressed the trigger.
The most shocking thing here is that Neeraj himself is in Delhi Police. The family claims that he is a head constable while police sources are linking him to the Special Cell. Police have not yet given official confirmation. A case has been registered against the accused but he has not been caught yet.
A policeman, who was supposed to protect the law, drunkenly asks about the caste and opens fire and escapes. Pandav Kumar had no fault. He was just returning from a friend's birthday party. His mother is sitting in front of her son's dead body today and is asking for justice. The question is, when the caretaker himself becomes a murderer, then from whom should we seek justice?
