New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timeline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Delhi. The final electoral roll for Delhi will now be released on October 19; it was previously scheduled for publication on October 7. Consequently, all subsequent stages of the SIR process have also been rescheduled.
This decision follows a request for additional time made by Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on July 14. The ECI accepted the request and issued a revised schedule. The deadline for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct door-to-door verification has now been extended to August 8.
Previously, this process was slated for completion by July 29, meaning an additional 10 days have been granted for field verification. The ECI has also altered the date for releasing the draft electoral roll; the draft voter list will now be published on August 17, whereas it was originally scheduled for August 5.
This stage has also been postponed under the new timeline. The period for filing claims and objections following the publication of the draft roll has been revised as well; voters can now register their claims and objections from August 17 to September 16, replacing the previously set schedule.
According to the new notification, Delhi's final electoral roll will now be published on October 19, instead of the earlier date of October 7. This effectively shifts the entire SIR process by approximately 12 days. Under the ECI's revised schedule, all remaining stages of the SIR in Delhi will be completed with a 12-day delay.
However, the field-level process will continue to ensure the voter list is made more accurate. It is worth noting that the door-to-door verification process by BLOs in Delhi began on June 30. Physical verification of voter details is being conducted as part of this campaign, and the election machinery has now received additional time for the task.
