Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar took oath as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday at Lok Bhavan, completing the leadership transition from outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that started last week. Along with Shivakumar, Dr G Parameshwara took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on Wednesday administered the oath of the office and secrecy to Shivakumar at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Shivakumar succeeds Siddaramaiah, who stepped down on May 28 as part of a pre-arranged leadership transition agreed upon by the party leadership.
On Wednesday, Dr G Parameshwara took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The oath ceremony of Shivakumar was attended by senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, besides Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states.
A host of religious leaders, students, pourakarmikas, farmers’ leaders, Dalit leaders and Kannada activists were also present at the event.
Siddaramaiah, who was also present at the swearing-in ceremony and greeted Shivakumar after he took the oath.
The 13 MLAs who took oath along with Shivakumar are, Parameshwara, Yathindra, who is the son of Siddaramaiah, Priyank Kharge, who is the son of Mallikarjun Kharge, KH Muniyappa, KJ George, Ramalinga Reddy, MB Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byregowda, UT Khader, Eshwara Khandre, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil.
