Bhopal: Alleged dowry victim Twisha Sharma's body has been at the AIIMS Bhopal since May 13. Her family members have demanded that a second post-mortem examination should be conducted. In light of this demand, the Bhopal Police has written a letter to Twisha's family, stating that her body has begun to decompose since AIIMS Bhopal currently lacks the necessary facilities to preserve a body for an extended period of time.
Notably, Twisha Sharma's family has been continuously alleging that her in-laws are responsible for her murder. Consequently, they have refused to proceed with the funeral rites. Amidst this standoff, the Bhopal Police has written to Twisha Sharma's parents. The letter notes that Twisha's body has been kept in the mortuary for a considerable time, increasing the likelihood of decomposition. Therefore, the family is requested to make arrangements to retrieve the body.
The Bhopal Police's letter mentions that the body is currently being kept at AIIMS Bhopal. The mortuary at AIIMS Bhopal maintains a temperature of -4 degrees Celsius. However, to prevent decomposition, it is essential to preserve the body at a temperature of -80 degrees Celsius—a facility that is currently unavailable at AIIMS Bhopal. According to the police, Twisha Sharma's initial post-mortem examination was completed on May 13. The police have stated that they have no objection to conducting a second post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Twisha's father, Navnidhi Sharma, continues to demand that the post-mortem be conducted at AIIMS Delhi. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he reiterated that Twisha's mortal remains could be accorded a funeral with peace and dignity only after all forensic procedures have been fully completed.
- The Bhopal Police committed lapses during the post-mortem examination.
- During the post-mortem, the police failed to present to the doctors the specific belt used by Twisha to commit suicide.
- Consequently, the medical team was unable to conduct a scientific examination of the ligature marks found on the woman's neck.
- Twisha's family members assert that this oversight has compromised the investigation.
Due to this very negligence, the case of Twisha Sharma is becoming increasingly convoluted. Two parallel marks were discovered on her neck, a detail that appears to complicate the matter further. Additionally, there is a time discrepancy in the CCTV footage. Her in-laws claim that she hanged herself sometime after 10:00 PM; however, the CCTV footage shows the time as 7:20 PM—the moment Twisha was heading up to the terrace.
Meanwhile, Twisha's mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, had stated that she was undergoing psychiatric treatment. The doctor's prescription reveals that Twisha Sharma was taking medication for sleep disorders and depression. Her treatment spanned from April 28 to May 6. She was suffering from an adjustment disorder. She had even consulted her doctor shortly before committing suicide.
