Indore: A young woman from the Banganga police station area has accused a man claiming to be a Hindu of raping, holding her hostage, and assaulting her under the pretense of marriage. Based on the complaint, police have arrested the accused.
The woman alleged that the accused first befriended her by claiming to be Rahul, but later revealed his true identity as Mohammad Rahul, son of Abdul Sheikh .
The victim alleged that in August 2024, the accused lured her to his room on the pretext of a conversation, where he had physical relations with her under the promise of marriage. When she protested, the accused applied vermilion to her forehead and introduced himself as her husband. Later, the woman learned that the accused was Muslim and his real name was Mohammad Rahul. She also learned that the accused had relationships with other women.
According to Banganga police station in-charge Siyaram Singh Gurjar, the victim sings at various cultural and social events. In February 2024, she traveled to Siliguri, West Bengal, for a program, where she rented a PG room for two years. It was during this time that she met the accused, who introduced himself as Rahul and befriended her.
According to the complaint, when the woman protested, the accused held her hostage for several days and repeatedly assaulted her. In October 2025, she escaped and went to her friend's house in Delhi, where she gave birth to a child. Subsequently, in March of this year, she moved to her mother's house in Indore.
The victim alleged that the accused found out her address and traveled to Indore on the pretext of meeting her. Here, he assaulted her and forced sexual intercourse. Following this, the victim contacted activists from a Hindu organization. The activists apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.
Station House Officer Siyaram Singh Gurjar stated that the accused is being questioned. Police are verifying his documents and identity. The accused claims to be a designer. Based on the victim's allegations, a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
