ChandigarhNew Delhi: The stir in Punjab politics intensified on Saturday morning when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team started simultaneous raids on Punjab Government Minister Sanjeev Arora and several places associated with him. According to the information, this action of ED extends to Delhi-NCR and Gurugram apart from Punjab. The teams of the investigating agency were busy since morning collecting evidence related to documents, digital records and financial transactions.

In which case is the investigation being done?

According to sources, this entire matter is said to be related to alleged money laundering and fake GST billing. The investigating agencies suspect that some companies were availing the benefit of Input Tax Credit (ITC) and GST refund by showing fake purchases on a large scale.

ED also suspects that many such firms were used, which existed only on paper. Transactions worth crores of rupees were shown through these companies and government revenue was caused loss.

Are transactions related to foreign countries also under scrutiny?

The investigating agency is now also investigating those financial transactions in which money has allegedly been brought to India through foreign countries. Sources claim that suspicious transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore may have been done through this entire network.

ED is currently investigating bank accounts, records of companies and suspicious financial activities.

Why increased commotion in political circles?

After the action of ED, the politics of Punjab has also heated up. The Aam Aadmi Party has called this raid an act of political pressure.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the central government of misuse of agencies. Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh raised questions on ED's action and called it motivated by political vendetta.

Has action already been taken?

This is not the first time that Sanjeev Arora's name has come up in the proceedings of investigating agencies. Even before this, their premises had been raided in cases related to FEMA and industrial land.

However, till now no detailed official statement has come from Minister Sanjeev Arora in this matter. At the same time, ED has also not shared much information citing that the investigation is ongoing.
