Vrindavan: Sanitation workers responsible for maintaining cleanliness at the Shri Banke Bihari Temple have reportedly gone without salaries for 14 months. Seeking payment of their outstanding dues, the workers met District Magistrate CP Singh and explained their difficulties.
Taking the matter seriously, the district magistrate has called for the relevant file and assured the workers that efforts would be made to resolve the issue soon.
The responsibility for sanitation at the temple was previously handled by PL Nine Agency. Around eight months ago, the agency was removed due to alleged negligence in its work. The responsibility was subsequently transferred to Rajtilak Consultancy Services.
However, the change in agencies did not resolve the salary issue. More than a dozen workers previously employed under the old agency are still awaiting payment of their outstanding wages.
The workers said they had been maintaining cleanliness at the temple for several years. After the agency changed, the new contractor also employed them, but their pending salaries from the previous arrangement remain unpaid.
They said the prolonged delay in payment has caused them financial hardship. The issue was also discussed during an earlier temple meeting, but no solution was reached.
Following the lack of progress, the workers approached District Magistrate CP Singh and requested his intervention to secure their outstanding wages.
After hearing their complaint, the district magistrate summoned the file related to the pending salaries to his office. The workers are hopeful that the administration’s intervention will help clear their long-pending dues.
It remains to be seen what steps the concerned agency and officials will take to ensure that the workers receive their unpaid salaries.
