Lucknow: Prateek Yadav, who is the younger son of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, and stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav, passed away on Wednesday. According to reports, the 38-year-old, who is the husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav was brought dead to Lucknow's Civil Hospital.

Who was Prateek Yadav?

Prateek Yadav is the younger son of Samajwadi Party founder and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhna Gupta. He is the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Unlike many members of the Yadav family, Prateek has stayed away from active politics and has always preferred a low-profile life. 

According to reports, Prateek was born on July 7, 1987. Mulayam Singh Yadav's first wife was Malti Devi, with whom he has a son, Akhilesh Yadav. Malti Devi passed away in 2003. According to reports, Mulayam Singh Yadav kept his second marriage secret for a long time and later acknowledged it.

Prateek has always stayed away from active politics and was primarily involved in business. Prateek, who was known for his high-profile lifestyle, often drew attention because of his collection of luxury cars. 

After completing his studies, Prateek Yadav entered the business world instead of politics. According to reports, he was involved in the real estate business. Who was Sadhna Gupta?

Sadhna Gupta was the second wife of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and the mother of Prateek Yadav. Although she was not openly active in politics, nut she was considered an influential figure in Uttar Pradesh politics.

She was a resident of Bidhuna, in the present-day Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. She had received nursing training and initially worked at a hospital in Saifai. It was during this time that she came into contact with Mulayam Singh Yadav's family.

Gradually, she began appearing at Samajwadi Party events and in political circles, although she always kept herself away from frontline politics. After Malti Devi's death in 2003, Mulayam Singh Yadav publicly acknowledged Sadhna Gupta as his second wife.

Before her relationship with Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sadhna Gupta was married to Chandra Prakash Gupta, a grocery merchant from Farrukhabad. The couple were got married on July 4, 1986, but later divorced in 1990.

Sadhna Gupta gave birth to Prateek Yadav in 1987. Although Prateek was born during her first marriage, school records reportedly listed Mulayam Singh Yadav as his father as early as 1994. In 2007, Mulayam Singh Yadav acknowledged in an affidavit that Sadhna Gupta was his wife and Prateek Yadav was his son.

Sadhna Gupta reportedly met Mulayam Singh Yadav in the 1980s when she was assigned to take care of his ailing mother, Murti Devi.

There was a nearly 20-year age difference between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta. 

Sadhna Gupta passed away after a prolonged illness at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram in 2022. She was reportedly suffering from a lung infection and was admitted to the hospital after experiencing chest pain.
