Muzaffarnagar: The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has ordered the immediate closure of Himalaya Green Recycling, located in Talda village along the Panipat-Khatima National Highway, after an inspection found its Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) non-operational.
The action followed concerns over the disposal of industrial waste and contaminated wastewater. Despite the factory's claim of maintaining zero discharge, officials found that its ETP was not functioning. The team also sealed the factory's boiler as part of the enforcement action.
A UPPCB team led by local officer Geetesh Chandra, along with Assistant Engineer Kunwar Santosh Kumar and Junior Engineer Raja Gupta, conducted an inspection of the industrial unit.
During the examination, officials found the ETP switched off. According to the inspection team, the factory was not following the prescribed procedures for disposing of industrial waste and polluted water. The findings raised concerns about its zero-discharge claim and compliance with pollution-control requirements.
Operating an ETP and ensuring the proper treatment and disposal of contaminated wastewater are essential requirements for industrial units. The board considered the non-operational treatment plant and alleged disposal violations serious enough to warrant immediate intervention.
Following the inspection, officials stopped the factory's operations and sealed its boiler. The action has drawn attention across the area's industrial sector, with compliance and pollution monitoring once again under scrutiny.
The enforcement drive comes amid continuing concerns over air pollution across the National Capital Region. Restrictions on non-essential construction activities in Muzaffarnagar and other NCR areas from November 5 to 20 have also been reported under directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
The latest action against Himalaya Green Recycling has brought renewed focus on industrial wastewater management and the need for factories to comply with prescribed environmental standards.
