New Delhi: OpenAI made a big announcement on Tuesday for all Indian users. Starting November 4, all users in India will get free access to ChatGPT Go for an entire year. The usual monthly cost of this plan is Rs 399. The announcement came ahead of the company’s first Dev Day Exchange event in Bengaluru, scheduled for November 4, where the initiative will be officially launched. The news was shared by Nick Turley, the Head and Vice President of ChatGPT. With this move, India has become the second-largest market for ChatGPT users.
OpenAI’s rival Perplexity has already been offering its paid subscription free to Indian users. The annual price of Perplexity Pro AI is around Rs 17,000. However, to get free access to this AI platform, users must have a registered Airtel SIM connection on their smartphone.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Go in August this year. It was designed to offer advanced AI tools at a lower cost. With this version, users can ask more questions, create better and more accurate images, and analyze data easily. The company revealed that the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in India has doubled within a month, though it didn’t share the exact figure. ChatGPT Go is now available in about 90 countries. During the DevDay Exchange event — a four-day program in India — Nick Turley made the big announcement that everyone in India will get free access to ChatGPT Go for one year.
Under ChatGPT Go, users get access to several enhanced features. Using GPT-5 technology, users can ask more complex questions, use improved image generation tools, and upload more files. It also allows better data analysis with higher accuracy and speed.
ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, first launched in 2022. Since its release, the tool has received multiple updates to improve accuracy and performance. To make the service profitable, the company offers different paid plans such as Go and Plus, each with extra features for users who need advanced capabilities.
