New Delhi: Google has decided to discontinue one of its specialized AI features, 'What People Suggest.' This feature displayed health-related advice to users based on the experiences of people found across the internet. However, questions began to arise regarding the reliability of such medical information provided through AI. Consequently, Google has decided to remove it.
This feature was an integral part of Google's AI system, designed to gather information from various forums and discussions and present it to users in simple, easy-to-understand language. Its objective was to enable individuals suffering from specific ailments to access and review the experiences and suggestions shared by others.
For instance, if a person is dealing with a chronic condition, they might wish to seek not only a doctor's professional advice but also insights into the experiences of other patients. It was with this rationale that Google launched this feature—to provide users with access to "real-life experiences."
Several reports highlighted that some of the health suggestions generated by the AI could potentially be inaccurate. This is because the information was derived from the personal experiences of ordinary people rather than from expert medical professionals. In a matter as critical as healthcare, receiving erroneous information can prove detrimental to an individual's well-being. Consequently, experts expressed concerns that such AI-driven features could potentially mislead users.
