New Delhi: In Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, women are busy preparing for the Home Guard recruitment exam while managing household chores. Despite a lack of resources, women from poor families are practicing for this exam for 284 Home Guard positions by running barefoot in saris. These women have neither shoes nor tracksuits. This spirit of the women, and the video of them running barefoot in saris, is going viral on social media.

No tracksuits or shoes

A video of women wearing saris and running barefoot during a practice run ahead of the Home Guard recruitment exam has gone viral on social media. The viral video shows the women lacking tracksuits or shoes. Sunita (35), a resident of Budha-Khukhara village, who was practicing to complete the race, said, "I come from a poor farming family. My husband can't afford to buy a tracksuit, T-shirt, or shoes."

Sunita's video goes viral

Sunita explained that she and other women from the village go to the Sidhu Kanhu Ground, about 8 kilometers from the village. All the women in the area practice running at this ground. Sunita said that despite not having the resources to run like tracksuits and shoes, the women decided to run in their saris. A video of Sunita running is going viral.

Completed 8-minute race in a sari in 7 minutes

When asked about the viral video, Sunita said she was unaware it had gone viral. Sunita explained that she was wearing a sari and finishing the race before the scheduled time. She said, "I completed the 1,600-meter race in 7 minutes while wearing a sari. The time limit for a 1,600-meter race is 8 minutes." Sunita says she is excited to take the exam.

Recruitment is to be done for 284 Home Guard posts

Jageshwari Kumari (35), also from the area, is practicing by running while wearing a sari. She said that all the women accompanying her finish their household chores early in the morning, leaving the rest for the evening. All the women are preparing for the race and physical fitness test in between. This enthusiasm is evident ahead of the recruitment for 284 Home Guard posts in Ramgarh district, scheduled from October 24th to November 5th.
