Kolkata: The results of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 are to be declared today, but even before that the atmosphere became tense in the famous Bhawanipur seat of Kolkata. Before the counting of votes began, a heated argument was witnessed between workers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to news agency ANI, counting agents of both the parties came face to face outside the counting center at Sakhawat Memorial School in Bhawanipur. Initially there was a minor altercation, but within some time it turned into a verbal confrontation. Before the situation could worsen, the police and security personnel deployed there intervened and calmed down the matter.
Bhawanipur seat is considered to be the most high-profile seat of this election. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting from here on behalf of Trinamool Congress. BJP has fielded its senior leader Suvendu Adhikari in front of him.
Apart from this, Pradeep Prasad of Congress, Shrijib Biswas of CPI(M), Manika Mukherjee of BNARP and Anumita Shaw of SUCI(C) are also in the election contest. However, the real contest is believed to be between TMC and BJP, hence special attention is being kept on this seat.
If we talk about the previous results, then in the 2021 assembly elections, Shobhandev Chattopadhyay of Trinamool Congress had won this seat. He defeated BJP candidate Rudranil Ghosh by a margin of 28,719 votes.
This time a big change has also been seen in the voting percentage. Bhawanipur saw 86.45% voting in the 2026 elections, which is much higher than 61.36% in 2021. It is clear that this time there was a lot of enthusiasm among the voters.
Since this seat is considered very important in terms of state politics, the political atmosphere has become heated even before the results. Workers of both the major parties are claiming victory for their respective parties, which is creating a situation of conflict.
However, with the presence of the administration the situation has been brought under control. Now everyone's eyes are on the counting of votes and soon it will become clear to whom the people of Bhawanipur have given their support.
