Kolkata: Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, with this he has become the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader to hold the Chief Minister post of the state succeeding Mamata Banerjee, who had occupied the chair for the last 15 years since 2011.

Who took the oath?

Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to Suvendu Adhikari as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Suvendu Adhikari took oath in Bengali as West Bengal Chief Minister. The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending the Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule in the state. 

After taking the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari greeted PM Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of the NDA.

Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to Dilip Ghosh as Cabinet Minister of West Bengal.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul also took oath as a minister in the Bengal government

BJP MLA Ashok Kirtania also took oath as the state Minister in Bengali.

Governor administered the oath of office to Kshudiram Tudu as Cabinet Minister of the state.

Former Union minister and BJP MLA Nisith Pramanik took oath as West Bengal minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and former BJP President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda attended the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari.

What happen before the ceremony?

Before the oath ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and new West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari paid tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary.

Later, PM Modi and Suvendu Adhikari felicitated and sought the blessings of Makhanlal Sarkar, who is one of the senior most BJP workers in West Bengal.

Who is Suvendu Adhikari?

New West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, who was born on December 15, 1970, to Sisir Adhikari and Gayatri Adhikari in Karkuli, began his political career with the Congress party, then joined the Trinamool Congress in 1998, along with Mamata Banerjee. However, internal differences within the TMC eventually led to Suvendu's exit and entry into the BJP. The new West Bengal Chief Minsiter is unmarried and belongs to the Utkal Brahmin community.
